What is Erasmus?

Erasmus is an exchange and mobility program of the European Union that is open to the participation of higher education institutions of member countries and candidate members.

The aim of the program is to improve the quality of education in Europe and strengthen the European dimension. This aim can be summarized as opening the best practices in Europe to the use of other countries. The Erasmus program tries to implement the determined aims by encouraging the exchange and mobility of students and staff in terms of studies and degrees taken in countries as well as by contributing to the transparency and the development of academic recognition .

What are the activities implemented under Erasmus Program?

There are two main categories under Erasmus Program as Student Mobility and Staff Mobility. Student Mobility is divided into two as academic mobility and placement (internship). Staff Mobility is also divided into two as Teaching Staff Mobility and Staff Training.

Erasmus University Charter

In order to participate in the Erasmus program, higher education institutions should possess and Erasmus University Charter awarded by the European Commission. Student Placements and Staff Training can only be carried out by Extended Erasmus Charter owners. Nuh Naci Yazgan Univercity has been awarded with an Extended Charter in 2012.

National Agency

Each participant country has a National Agency which is responsible for the coordination and monitoring of the program and providing the link with the European Commission. National Agencies are entitled to explain the rules and procedures of the program, determine national priorities and guidelines, and distribute the funds of the European Commission among participating universities.
